Lidl opens 159th store at Castleknock Village, Dublin
Lidl has opened its 159th store in Ireland, located at Castleknock Village in Dublin. The store was officially opening by LGFA Dublin players, Sinead Goldrick and Sinead Finnegan.
The new store, which has created 35 new jobs in the locality, was built by local Dublin firm J. Manning & Son and incorporates a range of measures to reduce environmental impact. As part of the construction plan Lidl incorporated works to the surrounding area to ensure the store was fully integrated and built with the community in mind.
During 2018 Lidl invested €100 million in a store expansion programme which incorporated the opening of nine new stores across the country. The new Dublin stores are based in Fortunestown, Brunswick Street, Northwood and Castleknock. Outside the capital the programme included newly built Lidl stores in Nenagh, Tipperary, Sligo Town, Childers Road in Limerick, Birr, Co. Offaly and Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath.
Lidl’s investment in Ireland is continuing with the recent commencing of work on the construction of a new Distribution Centre in Newbridge, which the company has committed a further €100 million. During construction with the Newbridge development will employ up to 2,000 people and, once completed, will be the equivalent in size to three Aviva stadia.
Lidl Ireland’s team now includes 4,200 employees.
