Irish Rugby star Tadhg Beirne calls on walkers and hikers across Ireland to join the Barretstown Dublin Mountains Challenge on May 29th and help raise vital funds
Irish Rugby star Tadhg Beirne is calling on walkers and hikers across Ireland to ‘Walk this Way’ and sign-up for the Barretstown Dublin Mountains Challenge on May 29th and help raise vital funds for Barretstown - the children’s charity that offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families living with serious illness. The annual Barretstown Dublin Mountains Challenge is a 30-kilometre sponsored hike along the beautiful Dublin Mountains Way.
Speaking about the vital fundraising event, new Barretstown Ambassador, Munster and Ireland rugby star, Tadhg Beirne said, “I am delighted to come on board as an ambassador for Barretstown, and was keen to be involved in the Dublin Mountains Challenge as it is such an important fundraiser. This event is being run to help raise essential funds so more children living with serious illnesses can experience Barretstown’s life-changing therapeutic programmes. So, I am calling on both individuals and teams to sign-up and participate, and support this amazing charity. And you never know who you might meet on the Challenge?"
Speaking about the fundraiser, Dee Ahearn, Chief Executive at Barretstown, said: “The COVID-19 crisis has meant that children living with a serious illness like those who come to Barretstown, who are immuno-compromised, have been more isolated than ever before. They need Barretstown’s therapeutic programmes to help them rebuild their childhood which has been put on pause as a result of illness. On June 4th, 2021, we reopened our gates and began welcoming families back to experience the magic of Barretstown and have some serious fun through our therapeutic programmes once again. We are delighted to welcome Tadhg on board as an ambassador and look forward to working with him on the Challenge and other activities in the future.
By taking on the Dublin Mountains Challenge this year, you will be helping raise vital funds to allow us to continue this important work, welcoming more and more families, back to camp. You cannot imagine the impact your help will have on a family that needs it. Due to the shortfall in fundraising events over the last two years, we are asking all participants to fundraise as much as they can.”
Mark Aherne, General Manager at Suntory Beverage & Food Ireland, said: “We are honoured to support this wonderful event once again. At Suntory, we promote an active lifestyle amongst our customers and colleagues, and our partnership with the Barretstown Dublin Mountains Challenge helps us to deliver this. We want to encourage everyone across Ireland to enjoy the benefits of exercise, while raising money for Barretstown and ultimately, having a fun day out!”
