Gráinne Seoige calls on public to Send Love with An Post this Christmas
Gráinne kicked off the #SendLove campaign with An Post at a wonderfully festive event at the GPO this morning
An Post have unveiled Gráinne Seoige as their Grá/Love Ambassador for Christmas 2023. Having played matchmaker on Grá ar an Trá earlier in the year Gráinne is keen to encourage more people to Send Love with a card or gift to friends and family at home and abroad this Christmas. Gráinne kicked off the Send Love campaign at a wonderfully festive event this morning at the iconic GPO where the An Post Send Love choir serenaded An Post staff and members of the public and the An Post Christmas stamps for 2023 were revealed.
An Post got the Christmas season under way by delivering a beautiful Christmas card to over 2.2m households in Ireland to remind us to Send Love this festive season. Three in five adults sent Christmas cards using An Post in 2022, proving that Christmas really does start with a card. Of those who did send love last year, nine in ten sent love across Ireland and one in two sent love to the UK. 30% sent love to North America, 22% to Europe and 12% to Australia or New Zealand.
It's important to remember the deadlines for sending this year to ensure everyone can Send Love before Christmas Day! Details of posting deadlines are available on www.anpost.com/christmas .
Gráinne Seoige spoke at the event about how important it is to her to send love to the special people in her life at Christmas “I am delighted to be An Post's 'Grá' ambassador this year to help motivate the nation to send love! I think there is something so special about receiving a card or parcel in the post, lots of my friends and family live in different countries so I will certainly be sending love with An Post to all the people I miss this Christmas!”
Of course, the most important letters that need to be sent before Christmas Day are Santa letters! An Post staff across Ireland are delighted to help Santa to reply to each of the 100,000 Santa letters received from children in Ireland every year. They've been doing this for almost 40 years and replies from Santa are sent out around the 19th of December.
An Post is also working to ensure that everyone can send love to people in their communities who need it most. As part of its Community Focus Initiative, An Post will help you to Send Love to others in your community by ensuring free delivery of all card and letter mail posted to and from residents of nursing and care homes. Write FREEPOST on the top right of the letter, where a stamp would usually be placed. An Post will carry cards, letters, large envelopes and packets weighing up to 1KG without a postage stamp!
This year's Christmas stamps have been designed by Irish illustrator Tara O’Brien, reflecting the excitement, magic and true meaning of Christmas in many different ways. For people with a Christian faith, Christmas is an important religious occasion. This aspect is highlighted in three stamp designs that include iconic images of the Three Wise Men, Mother and Child and the Family. Another three stamps capture the family and community dimensions of Christmas. These include the excitement associated with children writing and posting letters to Santa Claus. Also highlighted is the important social aspect of the season ahead, when family and friends get together to share precious moments and gifts.
